Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) is a non-profit healthcare system with corporate headquarters in New Haven, Connecticut. It is Connecticut's largest healthcare system with 2,535 beds, and includes hospitals, physicians and related health services throughout Connecticut and into New York and Rhode Island. Major institutions affiliated with the system include Bridgeport Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, Lawrence+Memorial Hospital, Westerly Hospital, Smilow Cancer Hospital, Yale New Haven Hospital, Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, and Northeast Medical Group.

History

Yale New Haven Health System was formed in 1996 through a partnership between Bridgeport and Yale New Haven hospitals. The system expanded in 1998 with the addition of Greenwich Hospital. In 2016, an affiliation between Yale New Haven Health and Lawrence + Memorial Healthcare, which includes Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island, was approved. The system is affiliated with Yale University in support of patient care, medical education and clinical research. It also has clinical and business relationships with several hospitals in Connecticut and numerous outpatient locations throughout the state. The system operates more than 360 locations in Connecticut and southeastern New York. As of September 30, 2013, YNHHS managed 2,130 beds and more than 18,500 employees and 6,000 medical staff.

Network

The Bridgeport Delivery Network consists of Bridgeport Hospital, Southern CT Health System Properties and Bridgeport Hospital Foundation. The Greenwich Delivery Network consists of Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich Health Services, Inc., and the Perryridge Corporation. the Yale New Haven Hospital Delivery Network includes Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH), Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven, Yale New Haven Ambulatory Services Corporation and The Grimes Center. The Lawrence + Memorial Healthcare Delivery Network consists of Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, Westerly Hospital, L+M Medical Group and the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Connecticut.

Northeast Medical Group, established in 2010, is a not-for-profit multispecialty medical foundation that includes hospital-employed physicians at Greenwich Hospital, Bridgeport Hospital and the hospitalists of Yale-New Haven Hospital and community practices that extend from Rye Brook, New York, to Gales Ferry, Connecticut.

Other hospitals with clinical or business affiliations with YNHHS include Charlotte-Hungerford Hospital, Eastern Connecticut Health Networ3, Griffin Hospital, Milford Hospital, Sharon Hospital, and St. Mary's Hospital.

Community

In fiscal year 2013, YNHHS Delivery Networks provided more than $350 million (at cost) in community benefits and activities, including uncompensated, under-compensated and charity care, and costs associated with health professions education.
